I was taking stock one day in 2015 while considering making real estate a full-time career, and I suddenly realized that a significant chunk of my adult life had been spent working around the real estate business in one fashion or another without actually being in the real estate business. And not really by design, it was just sort of coincidental that it worked out that way.
In the 1980s I worked for a property management company reviewing and filing commercial leases (exactly as exciting as it sounds), and later writing residential real estate newspaper ads for a broker in Los Angeles (repetitive work, but also useful; I can still rattle off a TON of synonyms for quaint and charming as a direct result of this experience).
In the early 1990s I changed mediums and started doing voice-over work in Seattle for one of the Sunday morning real state shows — remember those from the pre-Internet days? Still not terribly exciting, but at least I was on TV. Because… showbizz, baby!
I also worked in the mortgage business for years, processing residential real estate loans, and I spent a long and enjoyable time with a company handling vacation condo rentals on the island of Maui.
See what I mean? It was like real estate was my destiny but I didn’t fully realize it!
So…after years of working in high tech and tap-dancing around the fringes of this industry, I made one of the best decisions I’ve ever made: I got my real estate license and went to work for JB Goodwin Realtors. I took on an additional role became part of the sales management team at JB Goodwin in 2022, helping recruit new talent and assisting other agents in building their own successful real estate careers.
